Cacahoatán is a municipality in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas. The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas.

The name of this place comes from Nahuatl and means place of peanuts. The municipality has about 44,000 inhabitants and is 174.8 km ². Biggest and administrative capital is the same Cacahoatán, the nearest large towns are Salvador Urbina and Faja de Oro.

The municipality borders the municipalities of Tuxtla Cacahoatán Chico, Unión Juárez, Tapachula and to the Republic of Guatemala.
