Cameron is the capital and the county seat ( county seat ) of Milam County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in east-central Texas, near the Countyzentrum, about 200 km north- west of Houston, 100 km northeast of Austin at the intersection of U.S. Highways 77 and 190, and has a total area of 11.0 km ² without significant water surface.

Demographics

According to the census of 2000, there were 5,634 people in 2090 households and 1,404 families. The population density was 513.0 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 66.68 % White, 20.66 % African American, 0.60 % Native American, 0.16 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 10.17% from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.72% were of mixed descent, and 26.66 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
