Camouflage (Band)

Camouflage is the name of a German synth - pop band.

Band History

The band was founded in 1983 in Bietigheim- Bissingen (Baden -Wuerttemberg) by Heiko Maile, Marcus Meyn, Oliver Kreyssig and Martin Kähling as Licenced Technology. 1984 rose from Martin Kähling, and the remaining band members gave themselves a new name Camouflage (French for camouflage, concealment ), inspired by a song by the group Yellow Magic Orchestra.

The first studio was " Boys Factory" named and was located in the basement of his parents' house by Heiko Maile in the Metterzimmerer street in Kleinsachsenheim home, there are two demo tapes were recorded in 1985. One of these cassettes filed a friend at a radio station for a competition in which she won the 1st place, whereby the minor Frankfurt label Westside became aware of the band. With this, the title The Great Commandment in 1987 included what eventually led to a contract with the record company Metronome. The Great Commandment was previously published under the name Suddenly went away on a customary at that time called New Music Sampler Tape and sold primarily under the hand of Greater Bietigheim -Bissingen. While the debut single, The Great Commandment, reached number 14 in Germany, she made it in the USA No. 1 on the Billboard dance charts. Another big international hit of the group was 1989 Love is a Shield. Kreyssig left Camouflage in 1990. A year later brought the band Meanwhile an album of mainly acoustic instrumentation out. However, the lead single Heaven (I Want You ) was not a commercial success. It reached only number 57 of the German single charts.

A year later they brought up the name Areu Areu out an eponymous album of cover versions and early pieces of camouflage. The basis for this album were backing recordings for a live performance at a birthday party of his friend with the band photographer Reiner Pfisterer. Two years later she returned with Bodega Bohemia to their electronic roots. Although the single Suspicious Love got airplay, and this plate was commercially not very successful. Two years later, they brought out the album on BMG Spice Crackers, which sold also only weakly. Appeared in 1997 with We Stroke The Flames a best-of compilation, which also includes a limited edition 12 " single with old mixes, including of Love is a Shield appeared.

Only in 1999 were Camouflage again hear something of himself, once again a threesome with Oliver Kreyssig: The electropop single Thief still appeared in that year. Also, they did not last long in the charts, which is why the plans for another album were placed back on ice. 2000 appeared a new version of The Great Commandment, but with number 85 on the German charts, they could not fulfill the expectations of the record company. Not too long later We Stroke The Flames was taken off the market because Rewind - The Best of 1995-1987, a best-of compilation that was put together by Camouflage personally came out. On this, there also were also, in contrast to We Stroke The Flames, the singles from the album 95er Spice Crackers and in the Special Edition DVD with videos.

In 2003, sensor out on Polydor. It reached number 26 on the German charts, both singles entered the top 80 on 28 July 2006, a new single was released "motif sky". This did not make it into the top 100 of the German single charts. On 25 August 2006, the accompanying album " Relocated " was released. On 23 January 2009, the first live DVD was released under the title " Camouflage - Live in Dresden" at SPV. The centerpiece is a concert of the 2006 " Relocated Tour " in Dresden.
