Candesartan is a drug which is used as an antihypertensive agent in the essential arterial hypertension. In addition, it is also allowed to ACE inhibitors or when ACE inhibitor intolerance for the treatment of patients with heart failure and impaired left ventricular systolic function. Candesartan is a representative of the group of AT1 antagonists. The effect of candesartan is based on a non- competitive inhibition of the AT1 receptor.

Is used pharmaceutically Resorptionsester of candesartan cilexetil ( synonym: Candesartanhexetil ). This prodrug is converted in the body only during the passage of the small intestine into the active form, candesartan.

Following administration of candesartan cilexetil can cause side effects such as fatigue, dizziness and headache. It can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as heartburn and abdominal pain.
