Capelle aan den IJssel

( Listen? / I ) Capelle aan den IJssel is a town and municipality of the Dutch province of South Holland and counted on 1 January 2013 as declared by the CBS 66 043 inhabitants.

Location and economic

Capelle aan den IJssel is located on the Hollandse IJssel, about seven miles north-east of the neighboring city of Rotterdam, and can be referred to as a suburb of the city. In the central quarter Schollevaar is a station on the railway line Rotterdam - Utrecht, the mall Scholver and the cemetery with the crematorium. The center is connected by an underground line with Rotterdam. Also, a highway leading from here to Rotterdam.

Capelle itself has a lot of industry, especially ship repair yards and other metal processing companies, such as all kinds of service offices and workshops. Neighboring towns are Nieuwerkerk and Rotterdam / Alexander.

History

Around a chapel and a Moordrecht built around 1250 by the Lords, in 1352 already ruined castle, the first villagers settled. Capelle was afflicted 1350-1550 mainly of wars, followed by floods and fires. Only dating from the 15th century village church was spared again and again. Around 1900 developed on the river banks a shipbuilding industry. After 1960, the village grew into a suburb of Rotterdam.

The town is a typical commuter town in Greater Rotterdam. Primarily people living with higher levels of education who engage in leadership positions in Rotterdam Capelle.
