Carabaña

Carabaña is a small community in the Comunidad de Madrid (Spain). It lies about 40 km east of Madrid, near the dual carriageway A-3, the highway to Valencia, on the banks of the Rio Tajuña at an altitude of 625 m above sea level.

History

Carabaña was founded on the Roman road that leads from Mérida to Tarragona and was also a settlement of Visgothen.

With a more than 2000 -year history Carabaña is one of the oldest towns in the Madrid region. Its origins lie in pre-Roman times Celtiberian who knew the location under the name Caraca.

Extra virgin olive oil

The culture of the olive tree originated in Carabaña from the Roman era. Today Carabaña is one of the main producers of olive oil in the Comunidad de Madrid. The olives have exceptional value thanks to the centenarian olive trees.

Extra virgin olive oil Vega Carabaña is now the largest employer in the community.

Bike path

The Vía Verde del Tajuña bicycle path runs through Carabaña, he follows the path of the old railway line near the banks of the River Tajuña. It starts in Morata de Tajuña (20 km downstream ) and ends in Ambite (14 km upstream ).
