Carate Brianza

Carate Brianza is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 17,681 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy. The municipality is situated approximately 13 kilometers north of Monza on Lambro on the edge of the Parco della Valle del Lambro.

History

Settlement finds from the Middle Ages can be found in the Archaeological Museum of Milan today. In the Early Middle Ages the construction of a tower by the Lombard Queen Theodelinda is attested.

Traffic

The place is close to the Strada Statale 36 from Milan to Lecco. The former interurban tram to Milan has been shut down since 1982. However, there is a railway station ( Carate Calo ) on the non-electrified railway line from Monza to Molteno.
