Roman Catholic Diocese of Mogadiscio

The Diocese of Mogadishu ( Mogadishu ) (Latin: Dioecesis Mogadiscensis ) is located in Somalia Roman Catholic diocese based in Mogadishu and covers the whole of Somalia. It is directly subordinate to the Holy See ( exemption ).

History

On January 21, 1904 the Prefecture Apostolic of Benadir from the Apostolic Vicariate Nordsansibar was built out in the former Italian Somaliland, which became applicable on 15 December 1927, the Apostolic Vicariate and bore the name Mogadishu. On November 20, 1975, the Apostolic Vicariate of Mogadishu was raised to the bishopric. The latest up to the Bishop of Mogadishu Pietro Salvatore Colombo ( * 1922 in Carate Brianza) was killed on July 9, 1989 during a service of Muslims and the cathedral completely destroyed with the adjoining monastery, dating from 1928 in the sequence. After the murder of the nun Leon Sgorbati in 2006, the last three sisters left the country.
