Carl Braun (obstetrician)

Carl Braun Knights of remote forest ( born March 22, 1822 in Zistersdorf, Lower Austria, † March 28 1891 in Vienna, but also Karl von Braun remote forest or Karl Ritter Brown of Fern Forest) was an Austrian gynecologist.

Life

After studying medicine in Vienna Brown 1847 PhD Dr. med. From 1849 to 1853 he was the successor of Ignaz Semmelweis assistant at the First Obstetric University Hospital in Vienna. He habilitated in 1853 and became a professor at the school for midwives in Trento.

In 1856 he became a full professor in Vienna and CEO of I. Obstetric University Hospital. 1866/67 and 1870/71 he was dean and 1868/69 Rector of the University of Vienna.

In 1877 he was appointed councilor in 1872 and raised to the nobility " of remote forest " to knighthood.

1877 Brown Street in Vienna Hernals was named after him; 1894 relief portrait of Theodor Charlemont was revealed in the arcaded courtyard of the Vienna University.

Carl Braun Knights of remote forest is the grandfather of the opera singer Jella Braun remote forest.
