Carl Clarence Kiess

Carl Clarence Kiess ( born October 18, 1887 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, † October 16, 1967 ) was an American astronomer.

Kiess worked at the Lick Observatory. In 1911 he discovered the comet named after him C/1911 N1.

In 1963 he received an honorary doctorate from Indiana University. In addition, the lunar crater Kiess and the asteroid (1788 ) Kiess has been named after him.
