Kiess (crater)

Kiess is an impact crater on the eastern edge of the lunar front side at the southern edge of Mare Smythii, east of the crater Kästner and south of Haldane. The crater is very flat, since the interior was flooded with lavas of Mare.

The crater was officially named in 1973 by the IAU by the American astronomer Carl Clarence Kiess.
