Carl Friedrich Nagelsbach

Karl Friedrich nails Bach ( born March 28, 1806 Wöhrd, † April 21, 1859 in Erlangen, Germany ) was a German classical scholar.

Family

He was born the son of a country judge Georg Ludwig nails Bach (1773-1826) and his wife Barbara nee Schaeffer ( 1784-1821 ). His sister was Sophie Wilhelmine nails Bach, the mother of the constitutional law expert Hermann Roesler ( 1834-1894 ). In 1829 he married Rosalie née Walker, with whom he had three sons.

Life

After attending schools in Bayreuth and Ansbach in 1814, he studied in 1822 in Erlangen theology, philosophy and philology and joined the Erlanger fraternity Teutonia / Arminia. After graduating, he became an assistant teacher in Nuremberg in 1826 and 1827-1842 teacher and professor at the Gymnasium in Nuremberg. He then followed in 1842 an appointment as a full professor in Erlangen and was also co-director at the Philological Seminar. By 1857, he rejected calls to Halle, Tübingen and Kiel and offers from Marburg and Heidelberg and was in the winter semester 1849 and summer semester 1850 Vice-Rector. He was an academic teacher of Karl Friedrichs and Iwan von Müller. In 1844 he became a corresponding member of the philosophical- philological class of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, and in 1859 their ordinary foreign member.

Honors

1857 Karl Friedrich Nagelsbach was elevated to the nobility Bavarian people. In Erlangen is Goethestr. 9 him placed in memory a plaque and named in Erlangen- Süd Nägelsbachstraße after him.
