Carlo Mannelli

Carlo Mannelli (* November 4, 1640; † January 6, 1697 in Rome ) was an Italian violinist, castrato and composer.

Mannelli spent most of his life in Rome, where he worked in opera and church occasions. As a violinist with the nickname " Carlo del Violino " he played as first violinist in the most prestigious Roman formations of his time. Arcangelo Corelli, who makes music under many man Ellis line and this only 1682-1690 gradually replaced as first violinist Concertino, described him in 1685 in a letter as one of his most influential teacher. He also counts with Carlo Ambrogio Lonati and Lelio Colista certainly cited in the preface to Corelli op.1 " più valorosi professori musici di Roma " in which Corelli expressly thanked.

For several years was Mannelli head of " Congregetione di S. Cecilia ," a to the present day persisting musicians organization. When he died unmarried in 1697, he left his not inconsiderable fortune to the Congregation. The Foundation sum was provided for underprivileged members and went out towards the end of the 18th century.

With one of its two symphony a violino solo ( 1666 ), which is preserved in manuscript, his works remain missing. Although in his estate 300 works are mentioned, including 86 violin sonatas, 24 trio sonatas, 58 Sinfonias for Three Violins and BC, as well as some vocal works. Also, there are notes on a work studio del Violino, which also remains missing.
