Carlo Salotti

Carlo Cardinal Salotti ( born July 25, 1870 in Grotte di Castro, Viterbo Province, Italy, † October 24, 1947 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Carlo Salotti received in Orvieto and Rome his theological and philosophical training and received on 22 September 1894, the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further studies, he worked in 1897-1912 as a pastor in the Diocese of Rome, where he also worked as a high school teacher from 1902. In 1915 he received the title of Pontifical domestic prelates and was assessor of the Congregation of Rites.

Pope Pius XI. appointed Carlo Salotti on June 30, 1930, Titular Archbishop of Philippopolis in Thracia and three days later, Secretary of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, as well as rector of the Pontifical Athenaeum " De Propaganda Fide ", where he founded the Institute for Mission Studies. He received his episcopal consecration Wilhelmus Marinus Cardinal van Rossum CSsR on July 6 of the same year.

1933 Pope Pius XI appointed him. cardinal " in pectore ", 1935, he proclaimed the appointment and took him on 16 December of the same year as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola in the College of Cardinals to. On September 14, 1938 Carlo Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation of Rites on 11 December 1939, elevated to cardinal bishop of Palestrina.

He died on 24 October 1947 in Rome and was buried at his birthplace.
