Grotte di Castro is a municipality with 2764 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Viterbo in the Italian region of Lazio.

Geography
Grotte di Castro is located 121 km northwest of Rome, 44 km north- west of Viterbo and 12 km west of Bolsena. It is situated in the Monti Volsini above the Lake Bolsena. The municipality covers an altitude 305-576 m asl, the lake shore at Lake Bolsena to the level of the caldera, the former volcanic lake.
The community is a member of the Comunità Montana Alta Tuscia Laziale.
The municipality belongs to the district Mortaro.
The neighboring municipalities are Acquapendente, Capranica, Onano and San Lorenzo Nuovo.
The municipality is located in the seismic zone 2 (medium endangered).
Traffic
The territory of Grotte di Castro is crossed by the strada regional maremmana 74 ( SR74 ), which runs from Orbetello to Orvieto and at 3 km crosses the Via Cassia. The nearest train station is in Montefiascone.

Policy
Piero Camilli ( PdL ) was elected in June 2009 for the mayor. He replaced Alessandro Viviani (2004-2009), who did not run. His center-right list is also available with 8 of 12 seats, the majority in the City Council.

Attractions
In the municipality, the Etruscan necropolis di Pianezza is from the 7th to the 5th century BC
Specialty
Cave is famous for its potatoes, variety Patata the Alto Viterbese. Every year you held the Sagra della Patata in honor of the end of August.
Within the municipality of red dessert wine Aleatico di Gradoli is made.
