Carol Browner

Carol M. Browner ( born December 16, 1955 in Miami) is an American politician of the Democratic Party with a focus on environmental and energy policy. It is as head of the Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy Advisor for Climate and Energy of the U.S. President Barack Obama.

Life and work

After a degree in English and Law at the University of Florida located Browner operated initially in the environmental policy of the State of Florida; among other things, it was from 1991 to 1993 director of the local environmental protection authority. From his first marriage Browner has a son, born in 1987, named Zachary.

Under President Bill Clinton, she was from 1993 to 2001 director of the national U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and was a confidant of the known as environmental and climate advocates Vice President Al Gore.

After the end of Clinton's presidency Browner worked in a consulting firm founded by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and held senior positions in various organizations such as the National Audubon Society, the Center for American Progress and founded by Al Gore Alliance for Climate Protection.

Browner was known as a sharp critic of the environmental policies of President George W. Bush, describing his government as "the worst environmental administration ever" ( in German something like: " the worst administration in history for the Environment" ). In addition, Browner was a member of the Commission for a Sustainable World Society ( Commission for a Sustainable World Community ) of the Socialist International.

Since 2007, Browner is in his third marriage with Thomas Downey, a former Congressman from the state of New York, married.

In December 2008, Browner was nominated from the 44th U.S. President Barack Obama as the head of his personal advisory team for climate and energy. Together with the nomination of the also known as climate advocates Physics Nobel Prize winner Steven Chu as Secretary of Energy in the cabinet Obama, this was seen as a sign of a possible change in the U.S. energy policy under the Obama presidency.

On 24 January 2011 it was announced that Browner will leave the administration shortly.
