Geography

Geographical location

Cartigny - l'Épinay is located in Normandy, just a few kilometers inland from the coast to the English Channel in the north- westernmost canton of Isigny- sur -Mer départements of Calvados. The community is located about half-way between the city lying east of Bayeux, home of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissements, and the city lying south of Saint- Lô, prefecture of the west in the neighboring departments of Manche.

Starting in the west clockwise adjacent to Cartigny - l'Épinay the communities Lison, Castilly, Saint- Marcouf, La Folie, Tournières and Sainte -Marguerite- d'Elle, all also part of the Canton of Isigny -sur -Mer.

History

The municipality was created in 1826 by the union of the two hamlets L' Epinay- Tesson and Cartigny.

Culture and sights

Noteworthy is the manor house from the 18th century and the beautiful farm of Fosse- aux- Loups.

The church, dedicated to St. Peter of Cartigny - l'Épinay is built from the 13th century in large part made ​​of red stone, with a big-nosed cornice to the choir. Its bell tower was completed in the 17th century. Four stone statues dating from the 14th/15th.
