Caspar Kittel

Kaspar Kittel ( * 1603 in Lauenstein, † October 9, 1639 in Dresden ) was a German musician and composer.

Kittel was the oldest verifiable representatives of well-known musical family; his younger brother Jonas played the bass; his son Christoph et al Lutenist and his grandson Johann Heinrich organist. They were all members of the court orchestra at the Dresden court.

On September 23, 1616 Kittel was included in the Dresden court orchestra and was the pupil of Heinrich Schütz training as theorbists. With the support of Elector Johann Georg Kittel was able to travel to Venice in 1624 and study with different teachers vocals and theorbo. 1629 he returned to Dresden, considering, inter alia the monodic style of composing by Giulio Caccini one at court. was as theorbist electoral chamber musician.

1630 he was a singing teacher by Matthias Weckmann and taught his brother Jonas Weckmann in Theorbespiel. In 1632 he was hired as an instrument inspector, later as court organist and represented in 1638 Heinrich Schütz in the leadership of the orchestra.
