Cassia aldabrensis
Cassia aldabrensis is a plant of the genus Kassien within the legume family. It is endemic to the Aldabra group.
Features
Cassia aldabrensis is an herbaceous plant that grows up to 30 cm high. She has reddish- brown, wiry stems and pinnate leaves with many small leaflets that are up to 4 mm long. The yellow flowers are up to 1.2 cm wide and hairy, elongated dehiscent pods are up to 3 cm long.
Occurrence and habitat
Cassia aldabrensis comes on Assomption and on all main islands of the Aldabra Atoll, except in the western part of Grand Terre, before. The habitat are columns in limestone soils and pointed carts.
Status
Cassia aldabrensis is threatened by guano and phosphate mining. The IUCN classifies the species in the category " endangered" ( vulnerable ).
