Castle Meyenburg

The Meyenburg castle in the country town Meyenburg in Prignitz is a former noble residence of the family of pipe, which today is used mainly as a fashion museum.

Castle

The Meyenburg castle was from the 14th century until 1914 owned by the family of pipe, which was one of the dominant families of Prignitz because of its wealth. This is contrary to the usage from widely held definition therefore not a castle in the strict sense, but rather a complex for the region 's palatial mansion. The two-story brick building consists of two wings and has the shape of an L. The building fabric related parts of the medieval fortifications of Meyenburg with one and dates from the 15th century, the rest goes back to the 16th century buildings. The building was a total 1865-66 reshaped by the Berlin architect Friedrich Adler in the style of northern German Renaissance, which occurs particularly to days in the facade design of the gable. Renewed conversions took place in 1914. The renovation and repair in the years 1996-2002 represented the condition of 1866 restored. The castle is now used as Fashion Museum, Castle Museum and Public Library. The castle and the castle park are protected monument.

Castle Park

The current park is based on an installation by the Berlin court gardener Fink in 1868, which was heavily overgrown over the years and restored in 1997. The park is bounded on the east by the Stepenitz.

Fashion Museum Schloss Meyenburg

The Fashion Museum Schloss Meyenburg shows parts of the most extensive collection of European fashion clothes fashion of the 20th century from 1900 to 1970, which was compiled by the East Berlin collector Josefine Noble of Krepl. Josephine Noble of Krepl opened in the GDR, the first boutique in East Berlin. After leaving the country in the spring of 1989, the Austrian nobles returned after the German reunification back to the Prenzlauer Berg.

Library

Three rooms house a small public library with 10,000 media units for loan.
