Georg Dehio
Georg Dehio (born 10 Novemberjul / November 22 1850greg in Reval, .. † March 19, 1932 in Tübingen ) was a German art historian. He is regarded as crucial for the perception of art and was extremely influential on the concepts of the modern historic preservation.
Life
Georg Dehio studied in Dorpat and Göttingen, where he received his doctorate at Georg Waitz. In the aftermath of the historian concentrated his work on the German and European art history. In 1883 he began his teaching career at the Albertus University of Königsberg and at the local art academy. In Königsberg in 1888, his son Louis Dehio was born. In 1892 he was then appointed to the Art History Institute in Strasbourg, where he worked as a professor until 1919.

He was married to Charlotte since 1884 Friedländer ( 1859-1932 ), daughter of the philologist and archaeologist Ludwig Friedländer ( 1824-1909 ).
His son was the historian and archivist Dehio Ludwig ( 1888-1963 ). His daughter Catherine (1885-1974) married the archaeologist August Frick House ( 1882-1925 ).
His cousin was the internist and rector of the University of Dorpat Karl Dehio. His niece Dora Dehio is the mother of the biologists Erich von Holst, founding director of the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology.
Work
At the suggestion Dehio of 1900, held in Dresden Day on Monuments and decided to publish a handbook of German art monuments. The first band was present in September 1905. Since 1929, the Dehio appears in the German art publisher. To this day, even beyond the division of Germany of time, appear revisions of the volumes of the " Dehio " at longer intervals.

Since 2001, the manual is supported by an editorial board composed of the Dehio Association, the Association of conservation authorities in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Foundation for Monument Protection. The Foundation for Monument Protection, the editors have set up a joint office.
In Austria the Dehio is published by the Federal Monuments Office since 1933.
