The Castlereagh Highway is a 816 km long highway in the eastern part of the Australian state of New South Wales, whose northern end of about 160 km is within the limits of Queensland. The Highway has recently been extended and now includes the state highway 86 south of Gilgandra one. In the south begins just outside of Lithgow at the junction with the Great Western Highway and runs in a north -westerly direction through Ilford, Mudgee and Gulgong. From here the road runs along with the Golden Highway continues through Dunedoo and branches off again until he Walgett near Gilgandra leverage achieved by the Queensland border. After another 162 km ends of the Castlereagh Highway in St. George where he meets on the Carnarvon Highway.

The highest point in the course of the highway is located at 1070 m, the lowest 130 m.

Numbering

From the Great Western Highway at Lithgow as far as Gilgandra Highway signposted State Road 86 ( S86), of Gilgandra to the border with Queensland for leverage as National Road 55 ( R55 ). In Queensland, the Castlereagh Highway A55 is called.
