Cayetano Heredia

José Cayetano Heredia, full name: José Cayetano Heredia Sánchez, ( born November 7, 1797 in catacaos, Piura, † June 10, 1861 in Miraflores, Lima) was a Peruvian physician and professor.

Biography

José Cayetano Heredia, son of Manuel Heredia Heredia and Manuela Sánchez, grew up in the suburb catacaos of Piura. In 1813, the family twisted to Lima. Heredia studied medicine at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. In 1825 he wrote his dissertation and became a professor at the College of San Fernando. He was rector of the Colegio de la Independencia, where he taught from 1843 to 1856 and a member of the Junta Directiva de Medicina was.

1843 to 1848 he was chief physician at the Tribunal Protomédico de Lima. In 1855 he wrote the draft for the foundation and establishment of the first Faculty of Medicine in Lima which was established in 1856 at the Colegio de la Independencia.

Posthumously

The University Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia founded in 1961 in Lima was named after him.
