Cepheus, King of Aethiopia

Cepheus ( ancient Greek Κηφεύς = gardener, latin Cepheus ) is a figure in Greek mythology. As aithiopischer king, he was the husband of Cassiopeia and father of Andromeda.

After Cassiopeia had boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, sent the angry sea god Poseidon, the monster Keto; it should Andromeda be sacrificed. The daughter was saved at the last moment of Perseus, who took her with him. Cepheus had no sons, so his grandson Perses, son of Perseus and Andromeda, the kingdom was inherited. Just as Perseus, Andromeda, Cassiopeia, Cepheus and keto was eventually displaced by Athena as a constellation Cepheus in the sky.

According to him, the moon crater Cepheus was later named.
