Cereblon

Cereblon is a protein that is found in all animals. In humans it is expressed in many tissue types, but especially in the brain. There stabilized in the cell membrane specific potassium channels and thus contributes to learning and memory function. Cereblon has another function during embryonic development, where it forms the substrate binding subunit of a ubiquitin ligase that affects the growth of the limbs on the regulation of transcription. The drug thalidomide binds to Cereblon and probably bothers so the normal growth of the embryo ( thalidomide scandal ). Mutations in CRBN gene can lead to hereditary mild dementia due to learning and memory disorders.
