Červený Hrádek (Jindřichův Hradec District)

Cerveny Hradek ( German Rothenburg ) is a community of about 200 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is located nine kilometers north-east of Dačice and belongs to Okres Jindřichův Hradec.

Geography

The place is located in the southern foothills of the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands at the confluence of Řečice in the Vápovka.

Neighboring towns are Brázdův Mlýn in the north, Nová Říše in the northeast, Krasonice in the east, in the southeast Bohusoudov, Jersice and Hříšice in the southwest and Dolni Vilimec in the northwest.

History

First documented in 1233 as the place owned by the Marquart of Hradek ( Markvart z Hrádku ) was called, which can be traced to 1257. His eponymous ancestor was in 1211 founder of Prämonstratenserinnenklosters in Nová Říše.

On a spit of land was built on the Vápovka a fortress, which was called off in 1585 as a castle with estate. In the 17th century the castle was desolate.

One kilometer to the south is the bastion V Koutech, which also Otokar Brezina was a guest. A plaque commemorates the poet's stay.

In the village different legends have been handed over a fiery dog and the forest spirit Hejkal.
