Chagang -do is a province in North Korea. It was created in 1949 by splitting off from the provincial P'yŏngan - pukto. The capital of the province Chagang -do is Kanggye.

Geography

Chagang -do is bordered to the north by the People's Republic of China, to the east by Ryanggang -do and Hamgyŏng - namdo, to the south P'yŏngan - namdo and to the west by P'yŏngan - pukto.
