Channel One Cup (football)

The Channel One Cup (Russian Кубок Первого канала, Kubok Pervogo Kanala ) is are an annual, commercial competition. Organized by Russian TV - channel Kanal 1, Roman Abramovich Foundation and the Russian National Football Academy. At the competition, the Champion and Vice - Champion of Russia, Ukraine and Israel will take part. The prize money is over $ 2 million.

The main objective of the competition

One important aspect of this Cup Competition: The winner of the final is committed to invest half of the prize money in the youth work in the country.

Venue and Participants

The competition takes place in Israel. For some time, there is a very strong rivalry between Russian and Ukrainian teams. This makes every encounter very exciting and interesting for the fans.

The first competition was held in 2006 in Tel Aviv instead. The Cup was held only between the following Russian and Ukrainian clubs: CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk.

2007, the following Israeli clubs have been added: Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Tel Aviv The teams were divided into two groups. Both group winners faced each other in the final game.

In 2008, three clubs from Russia:

  • CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg,

Two from Ukraine:

  • Dynamo Kiev, Shakhtar Donetsk, and
  • The Israeli champions Beitar Jerusalem and
  • The Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade invited.
