Charles Caldwell Ryrie

Charles Caldwell Ryrie ( born March 2, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American evangelical theologian.

Life

Ryrie grew up as the son of a banker to Alton (Illinois ). After graduating from high school in 1942 he spent a semester at the run by Frank E. Gaebelein Stony Brook School on Long Iceland. He then studied mathematics at Haverford College near Philadelphia, where he was inducted into the fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. After meeting with the president of Dallas Theological Seminary, Lewis Sperry Chafer, he left in 1943 his plan to his father to follow in the banking industry, fall and enrolled in 1944 as a student of theology in Dallas. In 1947 he obtained a Master 's degree with a thesis on the relationship between the New Covenant and premillenarianism; In 1949 she received her doctorate with a thesis on the basics of premillenarianism.

As early as 1948 had accepted an appointment as an adjunct professor to the Westmont College in Santa Barbara (California ) Ryrie. In 1950 he was dean and chairman of the Department of Biblical theology and philosophy here. From 1953 Ryrie taught systematic theology at Dallas Theological Seminary. In 1958, he was temporarily President of the Philadelphia College of Bible, but returned in 1962 as chairman of the Department of Systematic Theology and dean of doctoral studies back to Dallas back to stay until his retirement in 1983 there. Guest lecturers led him to Bethel Theological Seminary ( Arden Hills, Minnesota), the Biola University (La Mirada, California), the Cedarville College ( Cedarville, Ohio), the Moody Bible Institute ( Chicago), the Word of Life Bible Institute (New York ) as well as to Europe, Israel, South Africa, Mexico, Haiti, Argentina and Brazil. In 1991 he was again an adjunct professor at Philadelphia Biblical University.

Ryrie was married and has three children. He belongs to the First Baptist Church in Dallas.

Theology
