Charles McClure

Charles McClure (* 1804 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, † January 10, 1846 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1837 and 1841 he represented two times the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Born on a farm in Willow Grove Cumberland County Charles McClure attended until 1824 the Dickinson College in Carlisle. After a subsequent law degree in 1826 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1835 he was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1836, McClure was in the 13th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James Black on March 4, 1837. Until March 3, 1839, he was able to complete a term in Congress. In 1840 he was re-elected in a by-election to Congress, where he finished the current legislative period between 7 December 1840 and 3 March 1841.

Between 1843 and 1845, McClure served as Secretary of State, the managing official of the Government of Pennsylvania. He sat down for the expansion of the public school system in his State. He died on January 10, 1846 in Allegheny, now part of Pittsburgh.
