William Sterrett Ramsey

William Sterrett Ramsey ( born June 12, 1810 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, † October 17, 1840 in Baltimore, Maryland ) was an American politician. In 1839 and 1840 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Ramsey, had classical training at Dickinson College in Carlisle, and later in England, where he then worked as a clerk at the American Embassy. Politically, he came only in the late 1830s as a member of the Democratic Party in appearance.

In the congressional elections of 1838, Ramsey was in the 13th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles McClure on March 4, 1839. In 1840 he was re-elected. At that time he was already suffering from a liver disease. A few days after his re-election William Ramsey took in a hotel in Baltimore life.
