Charles Walder Grinstead

Charles Walder Grinstead ( born December 1, 1860 in East Teignmouth, Devon, † March 16, 1930 in Nikenbah, Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia ) was an English tennis player.

Life

Grinstead was born in 1860, son of the pastor Charles G. Grinstead and his wife Sarah A. Stanley. In 1883 and 1884 he participated in the Wimbledon Championships in part. In 1884, he reached it the All- Comers final, which he lost to Herbert Lawford in four sets.

In the spring of 1885 Grinstead emigrated first from the Canadian province of Ontario. After nine months, he went further in the U.S. state of Idaho and worked as a merchant. In September 1892 he married Gertrude Cline. In 1899 he settled as a farmer in Nez Perce County and bought 130 acres of land.

He died in 1930 in Nikenbah and was buried in the cemetery of Hervey Bay.
