The Charoen Pokphand Group (CP ) ( Thai เครือ เจริญ โภคภัณฑ์, RTGS: Khruea Charoen Phokphan, pronunciation: [ k ʰ rɯa t͡ɕàrɤ ː n p ʰ OKP ʰ an] ) is a multinational company based in Thailand. The core businesses of the conglomerate are agricultural and food industry, sales and trading, as well as the telecommunications industry. The CP group was founded in 1921 and currently employs 280,000 employees in locations around the world.

History

In 1921, the from China to Thailand (then Siam) immigrant brothers Ek Chor and Siew Whooy founded a business for seed in Bangkok's Chinatown. They imported seeds and vegetables from China and exported poultry, pork and eggs to Hong Kong. Charoen Pokphand in the company in 1946 (CP ) has been renamed. In the 1970s, CP had the Thai market for chickens and eggs almost completely under control.

The company was famous for its horizontal integration of different business sectors: animal breeding, slaughter houses, industrial processing of food and later with its own restaurant chain. CP also expanded abroad. 1972, a flour mill in Indonesia was founded, from 1973 chickens were exported to Japan, and in 1976 founded a subsidiary in Singapore.

As China opened in the 1980s for foreign companies to CP could by good connections to the homeland China was the first foreign company in the newly created Special Economic Zone of Shenzhen settle where the subsidiary company Chia Tai was founded. TelecomAsia, Charoen Pokphand Feedmill, Siam macro and Vinythai were listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, a subsidiary of Hong Kong on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Group for pet food and poultry from Shanghai at the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the real estate developers in Hong Kong Fortune at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Ek Chor China Motorcycle on the New York Stock Exchange.

After the Asian crisis of 1997 consolidated the three CP food businesses (CP Foods), retailing (CP -ALL as Thai Frachisenehmer of 7 -Eleven ) and telecommunications ( True). According to the contingency plan, the company sold its stake in Tesco Lotus in 2003, a joint venture with Tesco, to focus on 7-Eleven, at the CP held a majority share. However, CP kept the shares in Tesco Lotus stores in China.

Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc. (CPF ) was established in 1978 and is active in the areas of animal nutrition, animal husbandry, food processing and trade. CPF is now the world's largest manufacturer of pet food.

The telecommunications group True Corporation Plc ( True) was founded in the late 1980s. The main companies are mobile operators TrueMove, the ISP True online and in the pay - TV provider True Visions.

CP ALL

CP ALL Plc. is the Thai licensee of 7 -Eleven and operates 6,479 convenience stores of this brand in Thailand (as of January 1, 2012).
