Chassigny, Haute-Marne
Chassigny is a commune with 231 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute -Marne, in the Champagne -Ardenne region. It is part of the municipal association Communauté de Communes de Prauthoy s Montsaugeonnais.
Geography
Chassigny situated on the southeastern tip of the Champagne -Ardenne region in the district of Langres, near the border with the neighboring regions of Burgundy and Franche -Comté.
History
Even in prehistoric times, people lived in the area of Chassigny. In nearby Dommarien that some years was part of the community Chassigny remains of a tumulus from the Hallstatt and the subsequent La Tène period are to be found. In the area of today's Chassigny there was a Celtic settlement.

The Diderot family had a country house in Chassigny.
In the 1970s, the congregation merged with the neighboring villages Coublanc, Dommarien and short Zait later Grandchamp for community Chassigny - asey. In 1990, the total community was dissolved. Chassigny took back to the original name.
Meteorite
The place was known by a Martian meteorite found there in 1815. The class to which the meteorite is one is called after the village as Chassignit.
