Château de Nemours

The Nemours Castle in Nemours, a municipality in the department of Seine- et- Marne in the French region of Ile- de -France, was built in the 12th century. In 1926 the castle was taken as a monument historique in the list of monuments in France.

History

Gault Here I of Nemours was in the last third of the 12th century the castle as part of a new town, which also includes a monastery with the Church of St- Jean -Baptiste belonged to build. It is located on the left bank of the River Loing, close to the old bridge, so that it could serve to defend the city and monitoring of the bridge. The fortress-like castle was rebuilt in the 15th and 17th centuries.

Description

The castle has a dungeon, four round corner towers and a square watch tower (Tour de guet ) with a height of 26 meters. The river remote from Hof ( cour d' honneur ) is surrounded by old houses that made up the original town center.

Current usage

In 1903 a museum was opened in the town of Nemours castle, the works of art (paintings, graphics and prints ) of the 19th and 20th centuries shows. Later exhibits were added, dedicated to the city's history.
