Chavanne

Chavanne is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chavanne is located at an altitude of 395 m above sea level, 8 km west of Héricourt and about 12 km northwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the western part of the Burgundian Gate, in a slightly elevated position at the edge of a basin between the heights of the Massif de Saulnot in the North and the Bois d' Arcey in the south.

The area of ​​2.32 km ² municipal area includes a section to the west of the Burgundian Gate. The main part of the area is occupied by a pool, the average is at 370 m and has no surface drainage. In the center of the basin is the bog Marais de Saulnot. The creek Sapoie which in parts forms the western boundary, provides for the drainage to the south, but seeps after a short distance in the cave of La Baume. The area is primarily used for agriculture (arable and meadow land ). To the southeast of the communal land extends over a gently rising slope of the wooded ridge of the Bois d' Arcey, on the 512 meters, the highest elevation of Chavanne is achieved. This ridge consists of a resistant limestone layer of the middle Jurassic period.

Neighboring communities of Chavanne are Le Vernoy in the east, Désandans and Villers -sur- Saulnot in the south and Saulnot in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Chavanne belonged to the rule Granges, which stood in the sphere of influence of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In fierce fighting during the Second World War the town was in 1944 greatly affected. Since 2001, Chavanne is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Héricourt. The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Saulnot.

Population

With 227 inhabitants ( 2005) Chavanne is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 295 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Chavanne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration Belfort -Montbéliard their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes near the road D9 Department, which runs from Héricourt to Villers Exel. Further road links exist with Villers -sur- Saulnot and Le Vernoy.
