The Granular cattle manure peel fungus ( Cheilymenia granulata, also Coprobia granulata and Ascophanus granulatus ) is a tube fungus that is commonly found on cow dung.
Features
The fruit bodies are up to 4 mm in size, thick and sit sessile on the substrate. They have a yellowish orange color which fed upon drying discolored orange-red. The fruit layer becomes grainy rough at maturity outstanding hose tips. The outside rim of the cup and Lings are kleiig - grained consistency. The elliptical spores 13 - 16x6 -7, 5 microns in size, smooth and have no drops. The short-stalked asci are achtsporig and have a size of 180 - 210x10 -12 microns.
Occurrence and possibilities of confusion
The Granular cattle manure peel fungus can occur anywhere where cow dung can be found. Similar cup warmers of the genus Cheilymenia differ in significant hair growth.
