Chérence

Chérence is a commune with 153 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Val- d'Oise in the Île- de -France region. The residents ' Chérençais "or" Chérençaises " call themselves.

Geography

The community Chérence located 70 kilometers west of Paris, at the level above the Seine. Neighboring communities of Chérence are Chaussy in the north, Villers -en- Arthies in the east, Haute -Isle in the south and Amenucourt in the southwest and the west. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park Vexin français.

Demographics

Personalities

  • Nathalie Sarraute (1900-1999), French writer, had from 1949 to 1999 a house in Chérence, where she wrote some of her work. She is buried in the cemetery of Chérence.
  • Marie -Thérèse Dethan - Roullet (1870-1945), French painter, she lived with her husband, the building of the former priory in Chérence.
