History

The Chesapeake Icebreakers were established in 1997 as a franchise of the East Coast Hockey League. After the team was eliminated in their first year in the first playoff round, she was defeated in the 1998/99 season after a bye and a win over Columbus Chill until the third round to the Kelly Cup opponents Roanoke Express with 1:3 wins in the best- of-five series. Although they reached the playoffs in two seasons, the Icebreakers of the regional media were hardly no attention to, which led to a low viewer interest. For this reason the franchise by its owners in 1999 after only two years, was moved to Jackson (Mississippi), where it participated in the following years under the name of Jackson Bandits of the game operation of the ECHL.
