Chikmagalur or Chikkamagaluru ( Kannada: ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು Cikkamagaḷūru [ tʃik ː ʌmʌɡʌɭu ː ru] ) is a town in the Indian state of Karnataka with around 118,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). It is located 250 km west of the capital Bangalore at the foot of the Baba Budan - Mountains, part of the Western Ghats. The city is the administrative center of the district of Chikmagalur.

The name means Chikmagalur on the local language Kannada "City of the younger daughter ." According to legend, she should have been given to the daughter of the mythical king Rukmangada as dowry. In just five kilometers away is a place called Hiremagalur ( " town of the elder daughter "). Chikmagalur is a local trade center, where the income of the coffee plantations in the area are handled. The town is situated off the main roads and is accessible by road via Hassan. The nearest railway station is at Kadur in around 40 miles away.
