Chilón is a municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas, located in the midtown area of the state. The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas; its name comes from the Nahuatl and means " earth of hemp linen".

The municipality has about 111,000 inhabitants and an area of 1685.2 km ². Administrative seat and largest of more than 600 places in the municipality of the same name Chilón other big places are Bachajón, Guaquitepec and Tzajalá.

The municipality borders the Municipalities Chilón Palenque, Ocosingo, San Juan Cancuc, Sitala, Pantelhó, Yajalón, Tumbalá and Salto de Agua.
