Chip Pickering

Charles Willis "Chip" Pickering Jr. ( born August 10, 1963 in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi) is an American politician ( Republican). Between 1997 and 2009 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Pickering graduated from the R. H. Watkins High School in his birthplace of Laurel and studied until 1986 at the University of Mississippi. Thereafter he attended until 1989 Baylor University in Waco (Texas ). After that, he was a missionary for a short time for Baptists active in Hungary. He was sent by President George Bush as commissioner of the Department of Agriculture in the former communist states of Europe to help there at the structure of agriculture in 1989. This office he held until 1990. He then worked from 1992 to 1996 on the staff of U.S. Senator Trent Lott.

1996 Pickering was elected in the third district of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he broke on 3 January 1997 from the Democrats Sonny Montgomery. After several re- elections Pickering was able to implement his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2009. He was a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and three subcommittees. Pickering was regarded as rather conservative MP. In 2008, he opted not to run again. 2007, his name has been linked with a possible bid for the U.S. Senate. Pickering but these rumors rejected and signaled his disinterest in such a candidacy.

Chip Pickering is married to Leisha Jane Pickering, who, however, has applied for a divorce. The couple has five children. Pickering currently lives in New Hebron (Mississippi).
