Joseph H. Beeman

Joseph Henry Beeman (* November 17, 1833 in Gatesville, Gates County, North Carolina; † July 31, 1909 in Lena, Mississippi ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the fourth electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Life

In 1847, Joseph Beeman came with his parents in the Morgan County in Alabama. Two years later the family moved on to Mississippi. The young Joseph received an academic education and then was for some years a teacher. He was also engaged in trade. During the Civil War he was a lieutenant in the army of the Confederate States. Between 1883 and 1891 was Beeman MP in the House of Representatives from Mississippi. At that time he was politically close to the Farmers' Alliance, whose board he served in Mississippi. He was also a delegate at several local meetings of this political movement. Later Beeman was then a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1890 Beeman was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Chapman L. Anderson on March 4, 1891. Since he resigned in 1892 to run again, he was able to complete only one term in Congress. After the end of his time in the House of Representatives to Beeman retired from politics and returned to his private business, which now belonged to agriculture. He died in July 1909.
