Chitila

Chitila is a town in Ilfov County in Romania.

Location

Chitila is the Wallachian Plain on the river Tina Cole, directly on the northwestern outskirts of Bucharest. The center of the Romanian capital is around 12 km away.

History

Chitila probably originated in the 15th century. The place was long dominated by agriculture and owned by the Wallachian noble families Brâncoveanu and Bibescu. The character of the town changed with the increasing spatial extent of Bucharest - the Chitila made ​​it a suburb of the Romanian capital - and the commissioning of the railway Bucharest - Galaţi - Roman, that passes through Chitila. Since 1882 chain in Chitila the railway line to Targoviste, so that the place to railway junction was.
