Chitralada Royal Villa

The Chitralada Palace ( Thai พระ ตำหนัก จิตรลดา รโหฐาน, RTGS: Phra Tamnak Chit ( -tra ) lada Rahothan, pronunciation: [ p ʰ ráʔ Tamnak t͡ɕìtláda ː Raho ː t ʰ ă ː n] or [ t͡ɕìttràláda ː ] ) is a palace in the Thai capital Bangkok. He is also the residence of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit in the Thai capital.

Location

The Chitralada Palace is located in Bangkok's District ( Khet ) Dusit, at the Ratchawithi Street.

Architectural History

The area on which the palace stands today was formerly known as Na Sompoi ( Sompoi field). King Vajiravudh (Rama VI. ) Here writing literary works in a pavilion, which he called Chitralada Rahothan Palace later. King Prajadhipok (Rama VII ) ordered that the palace should be assigned to the Dusit Palace.

Use

The Chitralada Palace is used by King Bhumibol Adulyadej as the main residence. He moved here after the tragic death of his brother, King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII ), who died in the Great Palace.

The Dusitalai pavilion is used by the members of the royal family as a place for audiences. Here, however, are not only representative buildings themselves, but also personally created by King Bhumibol trial fields for the cultivation of rice and since 1962 a dairy farm. Also, a rice mill, a fish farm ( since 1952) and a candle factory is operated here.

In a glass house laboratory endangered plant species in the country are bred and pulled.

On the palace grounds is also the Chitralada School, originally intended as a school for the children of the royal family. Later, the children of palace servants were taken. Today, kids go out to the people from kindergarten through 12th grade school.

Attractions

The palace itself is not accessible as a royal residence for the public. In the so-called auxiliary Foundation ( Support Foundation ) many crafts works are shown from around the country. Gold, silver and black gold lacquer work are examples.
