Anthophila fabriciana

The Spreizflügelfalter ( Choreutidae ) are a family of butterflies (Lepidoptera ). They are found worldwide with about 400 species. Across Europe, far described 17 species, of which 12 species occur in Central Europe. They were counted earlier to the round forehead moths ( Glyphipterigidae ). They were also classified in the superfamily Sesioidea, but now have their own, only her family containing superfamily whose kinship to the other but is still unclear.

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 5 to 20 millimeters. The fore wings are rather broad and often have metallic patterns. The hind wings are similar broad as the forewings and are rounded. They are fringed short. The thread-like antennae are of medium length and reach 0.5 to 0.75 times the length of the forewing. Way of life

  • Brentiinae: With about 70 species, distributed in the Nearctic, South Asia and Australasia.
  • Choreutinae: With about 290 species, distributed in the Holarctic and pantropical; in the Indonesian- Australian region is still the highest biodiversity.
  • Milli Erinae: With only three species that are native to Europe, Florida and Chile.
