Chris Abrahams

Chris Abrahams ( born April 9, 1961 in Oamaru, New Zealand as Christopher Robert Lionel Abrahams ) is a film composer and pianist and keyboardist, who has emerged especially in the modern jazz and improvised music.

Life and work

Abraham, who grew up in Sydney, first played jazz with Mark Simmonds ' Freeboppers and The Keys Music Orchestra. In 1982 he founded The Benders; he was then a member of the Australian band The Sparklers and The Necks; He has also worked with Peter Blakeley, Jackie and Ed Kuepper Orszaczky. Since 1985 he has recorded several solo albums. As a studio musician, he was active in The Church, Stephen Cummings, Midnight Oil, Margareth Kammerer, Laughing Clowns and Silverchair. In recent years he is still performed with musicians such as Jon Rose, Burkhard Beins, Sabine Vogel, Kai Fagaschinski or Mike Cooper and the ensembles Hammer River and The Somnambulist (Album Sophia Losses); Andrea Belfi and David Toop, he performed in London.

Abraham has written and produced soundtracks for several films and documentaries; his music for Australian film The Tender Hook 2008 was nominated for an AFI Award for Best Film Music.
