Chris Garneau

Life

Garneau, originally from Boston, lived with his family in Paris and later in New Jersey, before moving to New York. The love of music he discovered as he learned to play the piano at the high school. He was also interested in musical theater and wrote later for a role in the musical Spring awakening ( Spring Awakening ), one that the Tony Award. After a short break from this role that he took for his solo tour, he announced that altogether to pursue a music career. Duncan Sheik, who wrote the music for Spring Awakening and is friends with Garneau, helped with the production of their debut album Music for Tourists, which developed over a period of five years.

In 2007 he was first received international attention for his singles We do not try and relief from his debut album. Since the release of his debut in October 2006 on the independent label Absolutely Kosher Garneau touring in important for this scene cities like New York or Seattle, and later several times in Europe.

His EP C -Sides was released in December 2007. Already taken a long time, in July 2009 (USA ) has released the album El Radio, which was released in Europe on the label Fargo.

Style

Garneau's soft and intimate voice is often compared to songwriters like Rufus Wainwright. Like Wainwright Garneau lives as openly gay in an interview he stated, however, that this fact does not influencing his music. His role models include Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone, Elliott Smith or Chan Marshall ( Cat Power ). He is often compared with the significant independent musician Sufjan Stevens.
