Christian Bakkerud

Christian Bakkerud ( born November 3, 1984 in Copenhagen, † 11 September 2011 in Wimbledon ) was a Danish racing driver. He was active in 2007 and 2008, the GP2 Series and was founded in 2009 in the DTM at the start.

Career

Beginnings in motorsport

Bakkerud began his motorsport career in 1995 in karting, where he was active until 2001. In 2002 he moved to Formula racing and was 15th in the German Formula BMW. In 2003, he remained in this championship and finished the season in 24th place in 2004 moved Bakkerud in the British Formula BMW to Carlin. With three podium finishes, he finished the season on top of the eleventh.

2005 Bakkerud Carlin received a cockpit in the British Formula 3 Championship. While his team-mate Álvaro Parente won the championship and teammate Charlie Kimball was runner-up, Bakkerud achieved seventh place in the championship with four podium finishes. In 2006 he stayed one more season with Carlin in British Formula 3 Championship. He won a race and improved to sixth place in the championship. He was beaten by two of his teammates again with Oliver Jarvis and Maro Engel.

GP2 Series

2007 moved Bakkerud in the GP2 Series, where he went along with Andy Souček for David Price Racing at the start. The season was disappointing as Bakkerud scored no points and possibly sustain twice a back injury with a pinched nerve. In the championship, he was without points 34 while Souček scored podium finishes.

2008 Bakkerud went both in the regular GP2 Series and GP2 Asia Series for the team Super Nova at the start. In the GP2 Asia Series he could again do not score points, while his team-mate Fairuz Fauzy, among others, won a race. In the 2008 GP2 Series season, he suffered in the first race after a collision with Ben Hanley re back injury. In the second race weekend in Istanbul, he was therefore replaced by Souček. At the third round of the series in Monaco Bakkerud took part again, but then had to quit prematurely but the season. Its cockpit was acquired by Souček. In the overall standings, he was 27 Bakkeruds best GP2 result was a ninth place.

DTM and Le Mans

In the 2009 season Bakkerud moved to touring car racing in the DTM. For the team of Colin Kolles TME Futurecome he competed in an Audi A4 DTM 2007. With a twelfth place as best result Bakkerud remained without points in the DTM. He was for the team in the season but also in the sports car segment active and debuted at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which he finished in ninth place. In addition Bakkerud this year was fourth in the LMP1 class of the Asian Le Mans Series and 15 in the LMP1 class of the Le Mans Series. In 2010 he was active only in the 24- hour race at Le Mans. With this car race, he finished his career.

Personal

According to media reports Bakkerud worked after the end of his racing career until the summer of 2011 as an import manager in a shipping company.

11 September 2011 Bakkerud died at the age of 26 years following a car accident in Wimbledon, London, which he had previously suffered a day. According to the police, no other road user was involved in the accident. Bakkerud lived before his death in Notting Hill.
