Christian d'Oriola

Christian d' Oriola ( born October 3, 1928 in Perpignan, † October 29, 2007 in Nîmes) was a French fencer.

He was 1947-1954 four time Individual World Champion and three times with the team, he won at the Olympic Summer Games in Helsinki in 1952 and in Melbourne in 1956 the gold medal in the individual foil fencing; in 1948 in London he had become Olympic champion with the team, which was in 1952 succeeded him.

In 1947 he was elected by the sports newspaper L' Équipe France's Sportsman of the Year ( " champion of champions" ).

In 1958, he was the last time world champion team. It took again in 1960 at the Olympic games, but dropped out early.

Christian d' Oriola was a cousin of Pierre d' Oriola Jonquères, the 1952 and 1964 Olympic champion in show jumping.
